MB Health Card
MB Health Card – Manitoba Health Provides a card or certificate to all Manitoba residents, which includes a 9-digit lifetime identification number for each family member. The province’s Purple Health Card entitles people to health benefits and services and is presented when obtaining care from medical clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies.
MB Health Card – Previously, the family number would be six digits (for example, 123456), but will now include one letter and five numbers (e.g. A12345). The cards presently include a 6-digit family number as well as a 9-digit number for each individual.

MB Health Card Benefits
MB Health Card – The Manitoba Health Card pays for medical services you and your dependents receive. You are eligible for insurance services if you are a resident of Manitoba and have lived in the province for 183 days. The Manitoba Health Card has various benefits which are detailed below.
- Medical services
- Surgery/anesthesia
- X-ray and laboratory services in approved facilities when ordered by a physician
- Patients who are billed for insurance services by physicians who practice outside the plan are entitled to reimbursement from Manitoba Health.
Who is Eligible for MB Health Coverage?
- Be a Canadian citizen or;
- Have Immigration status as outlined in The Health Services Insurance Act:
- Permanent Residents
- Work Permit holders and their spouse/dependants (Permit validity periods apply)
- Establish a permanent residence in Manitoba, and
- Reside (physically) in Manitoba for 6 months a year.
Who is Not Eligible for MB Health Coverage?
The following are not eligible for coverage:
- Tourists
- Transients
- Visitors
- Domestic students temporarily absent from other provinces and territories in Canada to attend educational institutions in Manitoba.
