Medical Service Plan (MSP)
Eligible B.C. For residents, the Medical Services Plan pays for medically necessary services of physicians and surgeons and for dental or oral surgery performed in a hospital.
In Canada, public health insurance is available to eligible residents. Canadian citizens and permanent residents can apply for provincial health insurance.
In BC, public health insurance is called the Medical Services Plan (MSP). It covers the cost of medically necessary insured doctor services.
BC Health Card Coverage
MSP is the provincial health care program that pays for essential medical services. These include medically compulsory services provided by doctors and midwives, dental and oral surgery carried out in hospitals, eye examinations when medically necessary, and some orthodontic services. In addition, MSPs pay for diagnostic services including X-rays.

Who can Apply for BC Health Card?
- Canadian citizen or legally admitted to Canada for permanent residence
- BC I build my house.
- Physically BC at least six months in a calendar year
- Qualify B.C. Resident (Canadian citizen or person lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent residence) who is a B.C. A total of seven months of absence is permitted in a calendar year only for the purpose of leaving
How To Get BC Services Card?
The online form takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Your entries will be saved on the computer or device you are using until you close your browser window or submit the form.
